PLAN, PLAN PLAN…
This has been hands down the best way that I have stayed on a healthy meal, stayed on a budget and not scrambled for last minute meal ideas.
How to meal plan
Determine how often you will grocery shop-For me it's 2 a month, but I used to go 1 a week, I started dreading the grocery store!!!
So since my husband is paid 2 a month it makes it easy on me.
Write down how many meals you need to make
Because we eat out 1 a week I will add that into my meal planning schedule- yes there is no guilt or feelings of failure because I planned to eat out.
I write down days 1-14 and make sure to add 2-3 meals that are meatless
So something like this
2 days - eat out
4 meals that are meatless- Breakfast night, spaghetti (pasta ) night no meat, burrito night, soup no meat
Now subtract those days from my 14 day equation. I need 8 more days of meals
We like Chicken, fish, ground turkey , roast - and from these meals I can usually get 2 meals from the packages that I buy.
2 chicken meals
2 fish meals
2 ground turkey meals
2 roast meals
Now I can either use some of the same meals that I have cooked in the past or I can jump on the internet and look for new recipes.
Then figure out what I can do with the different meats
For chicken I can
-Bake it or shred it
-Fish - bake it
-Ground turkey - add to tacos, pastas, or soups
-Roast- serve with veggies or add to tacos
I write down my meals that I will be preparing and place it in the kitchen so that in the morning I can thaw the necessary meat.
Give it a try and let me know what you think !
Hope this helps !!!
